Hogs Enjoy the Snow
On February 7th and 8th, the Portland-metro area received a liberal dousing of powdery goodness. On our farm, we saw about six or seven inches of snow. Cold weather always means more work keeping the animals happy... waterers freeze, native species have difficulty finding food and tend to gravitate towards our chicken feeders, and there's always the risk of frozen chicken combs and waddles. Thankfully, we didn't experience any casualties. And the hogs had a blast in the snow! While many breeds of pigs would retreat to shelter, our American Mulefoot hogs loved the change in weather and were constantly running around and playing. They showed no signs of hardship; it's a great testimate to how hardy these pigs really are.
