Farmers of Pasture Chickens and Hogs
In The Beginning

Sherwood Pastured Meat was founded by the Johnson family in Sherwood, Oregon. Our family has resided in Sherwood for about 20 years.

Knowing where our food comes from was an important part of starting our farm. We're excited to be able to share our bounty with the community.

Growing Healthy Food

We wanted to take control of our family's food source. It's important to us to have safe, nutritious food. When possible, we prefer that food to be organic.

The first step in putting nutritious food on our plate was to introduce a variety of animals to our farm. Animals are the first step in rebuilding soil fertility so that we could begin growing chemical-free food crops. By raising our own meat, we have the opportunity to feed the animals a diet that will result in a healthful meal for us. In addition, we can be sure the animals are treated with respect and as Joel Salatin would say, get to express their true animal-ness.

As we move the animals to new pasture, we take advantage of the freshly fertilized soil. In some cases, we will overseed existing pastures with diverse seed mixes to provide the animals with their own salad bar. In other cases, we'll plant food plots. Just recently, we moved our egg layers to new grass and began planting a food forest where they had been.

Giving Back

Our family has lived in Sherwood for almost twenty years. We have received a lot from the community over that time. Now it's our turn to give back. We are donating 5% of our profits to local food banks and food pantries in the form of food that we have raised and cash donations.

In the near future, we wish to start educating folks who would like to learn about sustainable farming and Permaculture. We are still working on the details about how to go about this... but if you're interested, please drop us a line so that we can keep you informed.
